Matheson Can Help You With No. 4, No. 8 and No. 10!
Has this ever happened to you? After storing leftover spaghetti sauce in a plastic container, you’re left with a red film inside the empty container after washing it. Ugh!
Well, here are two easy ideas that should solve the problem: 1. Sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth and rub the inside of the container. OR 2. Fill the container with water, add a foaming denture cleaning tablet and rinse after 20 minutes.
Isn’t it great when the answers to your household problems are fairly easy? They’re called lifehacks, but we think they’re also lifesavers. Ready to discover a few more? Here we go! (We already shared one idea, so we’ll start our list with No. 2.)
2. Someone didn’t use a coaster for their drinking glass. Now there’s a water stain on your table. Oh, no! After making a thin paste with vegetable oil and salt, use your fingers to gently massage the mixture into the ring. Wait for about an hour and then wipe it off with a clean cloth. Another option: Spread petroleum jelly on the stain and wait 24 hours before wiping it off.
3. Your coffee machine looks nasty and your coffee is tasting bitter. Pour one quart of white vinegar into the water chamber and run the machine through the brewing cycle. Pour the vinegar back in but, this time, let it sit for 30 minutes before running it through the brewing cycle. Then, run a pot of fresh water through your machine—twice. This should do the trick!
4. Your basement is hot and stuffy. Add a ductless air conditioner to your space. Ductless AC units are great for rooms (or even entire homes) that lack ductwork. They’re small, energy efficient and will help you avoid the mess created when a traditional system with ductwork is installed. Give us a call for more details!
5. Your area rugs aren’t staying put. Add a thin pad underneath your rug and it should stay put. A pad also can increase the life of your rug.
6. Your pictures are placed perfectly on your wall, but it’s time to repaint. After removing your pictures, place toothpicks in the nail holes and paint over them. Once the paint dries, remove the toothpicks and rehang your pictures.
7. Your wicker furniture is off balance. Lightly spray the furniture with water. The wicker should swell and then tighten back up, eliminating any wobbling.
8. Your toilet is working up a sweat. On a hot day, the outside of the toilet tank and bowl can “sweat” as a result of the cold water in the bowl “colliding” with the humidity in the air. Your tank might also sweat if it’s running continuously, which can be caused by a leaky flapper valve or a ball that is set too high. You can find out if you have a leak by adding food coloring to the water in the tank. If it moves to the bowl without anyone flushing, your flapper is probably leaking and needs to be replaced. The outstanding plumbers at Matheson can help!
9. Your garbage disposal smells awful. Mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water together. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze. Grind the cubes in the disposal and then flush with water for about one minute. Follow up by grinding lemon or orange peels in the disposal for a pleasant smell.
10. If a summer storm hits, your AC is vulnerable to a power surge. Matheson offers several different types of HVAC system surge protectors, including devices for both outdoor and indoor equipment. We’re experts with these devices and will help you choose what’s right for you.
