And More … Up, Up & Away
Air purifiers, like air filters, are devices that remove pollutants from your indoor air and improve its quality.
How Do Air Purifiers Work?
Some air purifiers use electrical charges to lure pollutants to them. While an air filter traps pollutants to remove them from the air, air purifiers use UV (ultraviolet) germicidal light to zap away impurities. First, a powerful fan draws dirty air through a vent, which is typically located on the front or back of the unit. The uncleaned air then passes through a series of filters, often including a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter designed to trap particles as small as 0.3 microns. Next, the air passes through a deodorizer filter to eliminate foul smells. Then, the air is zapped by a UV light or a negative ion process to kill any remaining bacteria. Finally, the fresher, cleaner air is blown back into your room. Ahhhh!
Common Air Purifier Types
- UV light purifiers: Using safe, ultraviolet radiation, these purifiers sterilize microorganisms and render them harmless.
- Ionic air purifiers: These air purifiers use an electrical field with positive or negative ions, which attach themselves to the bacteria in your air. The ions are attracted to the opposite charge within the purifier, which results in the gunk being removed from your air. One of the most popular systems we carry is the iWave-V, which can effectively kill viruses.
- Adsorbent purifiers: With this system, an activated carbon filter adsorbs airborne particles within the purifier. The material is very porous, which allows it to trap molecules.
Some of the items air purifiers filter out include: pollen, dust mites, mold, mildew, dirt, ash, pet dander, tobacco smoke, fungus, bacteria, fibers and more.
Cleaner air helps you avoid asthma flare-ups, allergy symptoms and other upper respiratory problems. Air purifiers also help eliminate harmful chemicals in your air, neutralize unpleasant odors, eliminate hazardous asbestos particles, improve sleep and can even increase your life expectancy.
